Interns Wanted: to Learn and Teach Fitness Training (Midtown East)
Smart Workout is seeking part time interns (not a cash paying position), to learn how to teach, and then to actually teach, fitness classes.
Candidates must have certification in group fitness instruction, or substantial progress towards obtaining the certification.
This is a great opportunity for someone recently certified, who hasn’t had much teaching experience, and even for experienced teachers who want to learn new skill sets. We provide experienced trainers to help you create course content, and to supervise your execution.
We provide training for the following subjects:
About our Cardio Dance program:
There are four different tracks: “Zumba,” “Dance to the Hits,”,Swing and Hip-Hop. Zumba utilizes world music, with a predominant Latin flair, and an MTV twist. To learn more about Zumba, check the website www.zumba.com. “Dance to the Hits,” a workout original to us, uses songs and dance steps from the 20’s to today (Charleston, Jitterbug, Pony, Twist, Motown Moves, Disco, hip-hop, etc), all arranged for proper warm-up, cool-down, and cardio pace. Our Hip-Hop is an original choreography that fuses with Yoga. The routine starts with hip-hop steps done to current tunes, at a fast pulse, and ends with a yoga cool-down, which includes a massage.
Applicants for this internship must have a strong dance background.
About our Yoga program:
Applicants for this internship must have a yoga certification for 200 hours; those who want to teach pre-natal must have that special certification. The training includes procedural instruction on how to formulate content for a semi-private training, and the art of teaching a training session; and substantive coverage of Pre-natal, Power, and Revita Yoga.
About our Body Conditioning Program:
Our curriculum teaches: 5 different 30 minute classes: upper body, lower body, “FACE,” (which tones and strengthens the muscles in the face and neck) abs, and stretch; a 45 minute Total Body Conditioning workout; a special training session for using the Katami Bar; and a high intensity “Warrior Workout” routine.
About Tred n’ Shed:
Tred n’ Shed is a cardio workout on and off the treadmills, incorporating weights and calisthenics, and using Polar bands to monitor heart rate.
About “On the Ball”:
This is a strength building workout, using the physio ball, engaging the core, and increasing balance; and bands, for upper body conditioning.
About Step n’Sculpt:
This is a fusion workout, incorporating the use of free weights into a cardio step routine.
About “BOSU”:
BOSU is an acronym for Both Sides Utilized. One side of the BOSU ball is flat; the other is essentially a half-ball. BOSU exercises include strength building, cardio (jogging on the ball side), and balance on the BOSU.
The training for each substantive area will be held at different times, sequentially throughout the year. Interns may take as many (or as few) training sessions as they’d like.
Interns must contribute 24 hours of teaching to Smart Workout over the course of 5 months. Teaching can be in any of the areas in which the interns are specifically trained by us, or in other areas if they have a pre-existing skill set. The work obligation does not vary with the number of training sessions taken. The obligation is for 24 hours over 5 months, whether the intern takes one, two, or all of the training programs. Interns have the option to teach several classes a week and thus complete the 24 hours in just 2 or 3 months, or to teach less frequently, and take the full 5 months to complete the work obligation.
As an additional perk, interns will be accorded all the privileges of membership in Smart Workout throughout the term of the internship. If interested, please send your resume to smartworkout@verizon.net. Make sure to include your e-mail address, phone number, and indicate the internship of your interest.
