Trainer Academy

For Group Fitness Instruction & Personal Training Techniques



SMART WORKOUT is proud to offer its “Trainer Academy,” a program utilizing academic and practical applications to educate fitness professionals in the areas of Group Fitness Instruction and Personal Training Techniques.

This program is designed for people who are passionate about fitness, and who want to become Group Fitness Instructors, and Personal Trainers. We will provide our participants with knowledge and skill sets which will augment professional performance.

This program is suited for both career changers, and novice trainers, who may (or may not), have completed a national certification, but who have not had formal training or education in the field. There are no prerequisites.

Smart Workout is a CEU provider for AFAA. This course carries 15 CEU's.



CLASS SCHEDULE


The classes are held on 12 weekend days: Saturdays from 4:30 - 9:15, and Sundays from 3:45 -9:00pm. There are 60 hours for course instruction.

The next session will be held:
Saturdays 3/10, 3/17, 3/24, 3/31, 4/14, 4/21
Sundays 3/11, 3/18, 3/25, 4/1, 4/15, 4/22

For those who register on or before February 4th, 2012, there will be included, as an early bird bonus, a free 2 hour Anatomy workshop, which will be held on February 4th, 2012.

Tuition: $500, which includes Manual

The classes will be held at Smart Workout, 124 East 40th street (near the corner of Lexington Avenue), suite 603.

PREPARATION FOR NATIONAL CERTIFICATION EXAMS

The Smart Workout Academy is a training program, not a certification. It is designed to give you the theoretical knowledge and practical skills that you will need to get started as a Group Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer.

The Smart Workout Academy will help you prepare for many national certifications, such as AFAA Primary Group Fitness, and ACE Personal Training. Our program will help clarify many of the concepts found in the study guides of these organizations, by providing a foundation in the basics of anatomy, fitness testing, program design, and more.

We do provide a Certificate of Completion at the conclusion of the course.



EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE PROGRAM


This program does not guarantee you a job with Smart Workout. This is a stand-alone training program designed to provide career changers and novice trainers with the fundamental tools that they will need to succeed in the fitness industry. The training in this program is an excellent preparation for national certification exams, and for starting a career with a fitness facility.

But to be clear, Smart Workout would welcome and encourage the top talent of this program to apply to become a part of our team.


We offer two different employment opportunities:

A. 50 hour internship

Work 50 hours at Smart Workout, teaching classes or doing Personal Trainings. At the completion of the 50 hours, you would get a full refund of the tuition you paid for this program. This creates in essence, a “barter”—50 hours of labor for 60 hours of training time. In addition to the tuition refund, you’d gain valuable practical experience, and resume enhancement.

B. Fitness Assistant Position

This position requires an 8 month commitment, for 15 hours a week. This is a paid position. There is additional in-house training required (20 hours), and you would be required to obtain two national certifications (AFAA Group Fitness and ACE Personal Trainer). In addition to teaching classes and giving personal trainings, the position involves marketing and customer service. We would train you for this, but you would need to provide the talent and enthusiasm for these tasks. The compensation is $10/hour; plus full reimbursement of the tuition you paid for this program. Fitness Assistants have the additional option to take Smart Workout's Pilates Certification Program, with a complete tuition waiver.


TUITION

The tuition is $500 for the entire program, and is payable in full upon registration.


READING MATERIALS

You will receive a Smart Workout Academy Manual (which includes class scripts, assessment forms, and training modules), included in your tuition. If you expect to attend the Anatomy workshop, we suggest you obtain “Anatomy of Movement,” by Blandine Calais-Germain. We will give you a reading assignment from this book, which would be valuable to complete prior to the workshop.
